Arsenal’s U18s game against Brighton & Hove Albion has been called off for a peculiar reason.

At midday on Saturday, when the game was initially scheduled to kick off, Arsenal announced that their Under 18’s encounter against the Seagulls had been postponed.

However, the club failed to provide an explanation on the matter.

It has since been widely reported that the game had been postponed because the team coach ended up in Bournemouth instead of Brighton.

The fixture was supposed to kick off at midday at Brighton’s AMEX Football Centre. but was then delayed until 12.30pm before being postponed. The game will now have to take place at a later date.

The Arsenal squad ended up in Bournemouth, some 95 miles distance from Brighton, and a two-hour and 21 minute drive away.

As per Jeorge Bird, who runs ‘Arsenal Youth’, Jack Wilshere’s young Gunners side had named Alexei Rojas in the starting lineup in place of Noah Cooper, while Will Sweet, Zach Shuaib and Omari Benjamin were all set to start.

Moreover, the under-18s side, who had been looking to extend their unbeaten run in all competitions to four matches, named Maldini Kacurri, Louie Copley and Seb Ferdinand in the squad, having also been part of the U21 side last night.

Trialist Mason Cotcher was also set to start up front.

Arsenal team: Rojas; Ferdinand, Kacurri, W. Sweet, Brown; Shuaib, Akolbire, Copley; Oyetunde, Cotcher, Benjamin.

Subs: Cooper, C. Ismail, Ryan, Obi-Martin.
