Martin Odegaard showcased his "fantastic" leadership qualities on three separate occasions after Arsenal's 1-0 win against Brentford in the Carabao Cup.

Back in July, the 24-year-old midfielder was named Arsenal's first full-time captain since Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, who was memorable stripped of the role in December 2021.

Mikel Arteta said Odegaard's desire and ambition to take the team to a different level played a huge factor in his decision; not to mention the player's dressing room reputation.

And on Wednesday night, he displayed the actions of a true captain following Arsenal's hard-fought victory over Brentford.

As you can see in the fan footage below, Odegaard encouraged teenage debutante Charles Sagoe Jr to take the applause from their travelling support.

He then made his way over to the Gtech Community Stadium away end before handing over his match worn shirt to a delighted young fan.

And to cap it off, Odegaard pushed teammate Mohamed Elneny to the away fans after the Egyptian midfielder returned from his long-term injury.

In the space of 30 seconds, Odegaard gave us an insight into his mentality – and fans reacted accordingly on social media.

One fan wrote: "We have a captain here. A true leader. I hope he signs his new contract in 2028 when it expires," while another commented: "Pure class. What a perfect fit and captain for our young team."

A third said: "Martin Odegaard walked Charles Sagoe Jr. over to the away fans for a special moment on his debut. Class. Absolute class."

A fourth added: "Odegaard encouraging Charles Sagoe Jr over to get the applause from the fans on his debut. I’ve spoken to Charles at Academy games. He’s quite shy and may have just stayed in the group as it were. Wonderful to see Odegaard encourage him."

Arsenal will face West Ham in the next round of the Carabao Cup after Reiss Nelson's early winner on Wednesday night. Can they go on and win the competition?
