Manchester United have been linked with a sensational €22 million move for Arsenal's Ainsley-Maitland Niles and a deal could be completed "in the next few days."

United are keen to add to their squad and have only signed Donny van de Beek in the summer transfer window.

Florian Plettenburg has revealed Maitland-Niles is currently on United's radar as they look to bolster their depth.

The 23-year-old can operate in multiple different positions, including in central midfield and at full-back.

Maitland-Niles had been linked with Wolverhampton Wanderers earlier in the window and Gunners boss Mikel Arteta was willing to let him leave.

A standout performance in the Community Shield against Liverpool changed Arteta's mind and he opted to keep the academy graduate.

However, a good enough offer from the Red Devils could give Arsenal extra funds as they attempt to sign Lyon midfielder Houssem Aouar.

"I am always open to listening to what the player is feeling at every stage of their career," Arteta told Arseblog when discussing Maitland-Niles.

"Then I can give them my opinion of how I see them, what I expect from them and if we have the right understanding, then we have to move forward together.

"If there is something that doesn't work then we have to assess it with the player and the club and then find the right decision for both of them."

Meanwhile, United continue to be linked with a move for Borussia Dortmund winger Jadon Sancho.

The club reportedly had their first bid for Sancho rejected by Dortmund on Tuesday evening.

Dortmund are playing hardball with the Red Devils and are holding out for a bid in the excess of £100m.

According to reports, the initial offer United submitted was €80m with various add-ons that would take the deal up to €100m.

When asked about transfers last week, Solskjaer explained: "Different clubs have to be allowed to do whatever they do and feel they can. We are working hard to have a competitive squad and team. If and when there are updates we will give you them."

Do you think Manchester United will make any signings before the European transfer window closes on October 5?
