Cristiano Ronaldo could be set for a shock return for the Portugal national team in a bid to achieve a major milestone in his "last dance".
On Wednesday, Ronaldo walked out on Portugal's training camp ahead of a clash with Denmark on Thursday and headed to Madrid.
The decision from Ronaldo came as a result of him being snubbed in the 2-1 win over Norway after an extended period warming up as a substitute.
Ronaldo stormed down the tunnel and an emergency meeting was held involving Ronaldo, Jesus and Portuguese Football Federation president, Pedro Proença.

That meeting looked to have resolved the issue but when Jesus doubled down in a press conference, Ronaldo exited and released a statement where he pledged to "tell all the Portuguese about the reasons that motivated my departure from the national team".

Portugal have continued without their captain, beating Denmark 4-2 as AC Milan's Rafael Leao wore the No.7 shirt.
But just as they prepare for another clash with Norway, Portuguese journalist Miguel Pereira claims that that bridges are being built and he is hopeful of Ronaldo getting his swan-song - and his 1000th career goal while playing for his national team.
Speaking to talkSPORT, he said: "The thing is that 21 goals that he needs to score [to reach his 100th].
“He really wanted to score the last one with Portugal the same way that Pelé mounted a show when he scored his 1000th goal, and I think he was aiming to score that goal at the end of the season in a match with Portugal.
“He was expecting to score the 15-20 goals during the season easily with Al Nassr, but he really wanted to throw up a party that celebrates himself, his ego, his history with the national side, and "I do still think that is going to happen because, despite everything that we have seen and probably if we had this conversation on the day after the event, it will be more of a difficult situation to assess.
“But right now I really do think there are bridges being built between Cristiano’s camp, Jesus’ camp, the Portuguese federation is very much interested in having Cristiano because of all the publicity it gets, and I do think that Cristiano will be back for a last dance with the Portuguese side later next year.”
Portugal sent Cristiano Ronaldo's 'personal assistant' home in immediate order
The controversy regarding Ronaldo is not going away, with the situation dominating questions asked to the Portugal players.
A new development emerged courtesy of Portuguese newspaper Record claiming that Ronaldo wasn't the only one to leave camp.
The outlet reported that so too did a member of Portugal's backroom staff, with Antonio Costa departing.
