Schalke midfielder Weston McKennie wore a 'Justice For George' armband in his side's Bundesliga game on Saturday in memory of George Floyd.

McKennie wore the armband against Werder Bremen in tribute to Floyd, an American black man who died while in police custody despite pleading to officers that he could not breathe.

McKennie is an American himself and has represented the United States national team 19 times.

Fans picked up on the armband during the game and the 21-year-old received huge praise on social media for sharing the message.

Floyd's death has sparked mass protests across the United States over the last number of days.

Derek Chauvin, the officer seen lying on Floyd's neck while he was in custody, has been arrested and charged with third degree murder and manslaughter.
