Dundee United defender Charlie Mulgrew scored one of the most genius free-kicks you'll ever see during a Scottish League Cup clash.

The 35-year-old has always been deadly from set pieces, but nobody expected what he pulled off against Arbroath on Saturday afternoon.

He stood over the ball before running over it and leaving it for a teammate.

One teammate then goes to run up and stops, with Mulgrew quickly taking it to catch the goalkeeper out. Give it a watch below.

Every player on the pitch but Mulgrew looked stunned as he wheeled away in celebration.

Not a bad way to mark your return. Mulgrew is in his second stint with the club after leaving Blackburn Rovers at the end of last season.

Fans have reacted to the free-kick online and they think it's a piece of brilliance.

Mulgrew could give Adrian Justinussen a run for his money, who scored a hat-trick of free-kicks inside eight minutes last year.

The 21-year-old opened his scoring for HB Torshavn in their game against AB Argir with a goal in the eighth minute of the game with a set piece from the left side of the box.

Just four minutes later he added a second from the other side of the keeper's area, with the goalie getting his hands to the effort but being unable to do anything about it.

And just a few minutes later it was three as Justinussen completed the angles by scoring from a set piece that was more central, and further out.

He added a fourth goal to his tally in the 21st minute, this time from open play.
