Aston Villa took a stunning lead against Manchester City via a John McGinn strike with only 20 seconds of the Premier League game played.

Pep Guardiola's side have been undergoing a domestic wobble of late. They lost 2-1 to 10-man Leeds United, then were defeated 1-0 by Chelsea in the FA Cup at the weekend. However it wasn't expected that City would be torn apart inside 30 seconds by Dean Smith's Villa.

The goal was in part due to a John Stones error as he misjudged Tyrone Mings' free-kick, which set Ollie Watkins free. The Villa striker sent the ball to McGinn who swept it home.

City were behind just seconds after kick-off at Villa Park, leaving Guardiola gobsmacked on the touchline.

However, as you'd expect, his side soon fought back to equalise. After 22 minutes, a slick passing move sparked by Phil Foden was also finished by the 20-year-old England international. That made the game 1-1 halfway through the first half.

Man City went into the game eight points above second-place Manchester United.

But a defeat in the Wednesday evening kick-off would give their crosstown rivals the chance to close the gap to only five points with five games to go in the league.

However with McGinn scoring after just 20 seconds there was - clearly - still a long way to go. And Foden's classy equaliser means City will be favoured to go on and win the match, despite their slight defensive concerns at the moment.
