Football fan loses wallet on the tube and has it returned by Alan Curbishley

The former Charlton Athletic manager sent the wallet to the Bescot Stadium last week. This is great.

A fan was reunited with his wallet at the weekend thanks to former Charlton manager Alan Curbishley.

Oli Swift, from Birmingham, spent a day in London last week but upon arriving at Euston station after attending a work event at Soho House, the Walsall supporter had that awful feeling that most people have experienced in their life.

After checking his pockets, Oli quickly realised that his wallet was gone. In fact, it was sitting on a tube carriage, passing through the London Underground at speed.

Rather than wait for someone to report the lost item, he decided to do the sensible thing and cancel his bank cards on the journey home.

But days later, Oli would get the surprise of his life when he turned up at Walsall's League Two clash against Newport County.

"I thought it was a goner," he told London World.

"I'd cancelled all my cards and that. On the Saturday, I was going to the Walsall as I normally do. My sister is a season ticket holder as well and she was with her girlfriend, who doesn't have a season ticket, so had gone to the ticket office.

"She rang me and asked if I'd lost my wallet in London as the ticket office had seen her name and said they had my wallet and that Alan Curbishley, the old Blues player and West Ham manager has found it."

Curbishley must have spotted Oli's season ticket or fixture card in the wallet, prompting the former Charlton boss to send it to the Bescot Stadium's ticket office.

On top of getting his possessions back, Oli opened the wallet to find a handwritten note from Curbishley.

It read: "Dear Oliver, hope this finds you well. I found your wallet on a tube in London. Hopefully, it has not caused you too much stress! Now you can get in to see your team!! Best wishes, Alan Curbishley."

After reading the note, Oli posted a picture of the 65-year-old message on Twitter. “Alan Curbishley, of all people, found my wallet on the tube in London and sent it to Bescot," he said. "What a bloke.”

Here's how fans reacted to the classy gesture.

One said: "I would expect no less from the great man," while another commented: "I have always had a lot of respect for Curbs."

A third added: "When I was a young junior red for some reason me and my mum were really late for one of the Charlton Xmas parties. All the players had gone but Curbs was still there. Seeing how upset I was he spend ages chatting to me and taking pics I was only 6. True gent."
