Hugo Ekitike unluckily lost out on a Premier League record just hours after setting it during Liverpool's win over Brighton.
On Saturday afternoon, Liverpool got their season back on track with an impressive 2-0 win over Brighton at Anfield.
Despite the ongoing situation between manager Arne Slot and star player Mohamed Salah, the Reds took home three points thanks to a brace from summer signing Ekitike.
The two goals took the striker's tally for the season up to double digits, scoring 10 goals and assisting one across 23 appearances in all competitions since joining the club from Eintracht Frankfurt in a deal worth £79million.

However, it wasn't all good news for Ekitike as, despite setting a Premier League record in the match against Brighton, he later saw this taken away just hours after the match finished.

It didn't take long for Ekitike to put the home side ahead in the clash with Brighton as the Frenchman found the back of the net just 47 seconds into their 2-0 win.
In doing so, the 23-year-old set the record for the fastest Premier League goal scored this season so far.
However, less than 24 hours after scoring Liverpool's opening goal, Ekitike can no longer claim that record as it was immediately broken during Sunday's 2pm games.
During their hosting of Aston Villa at the London Stadium, West Ham United took the lead with a goal from Mateus Fernandes just 28 seconds into the match.
Not only did this take Ekitike's record of the earliest goal this season, but it was the earliest goal West Ham have ever scored in the Premier League, while also being the earliest goal Aston Villa have conceded.

However, unlike Ekitike's goal, Fernandes' proved to be ultimately irrelevant to the result of the match as the Hammers failed to hold onto their lead in the match.
A few minutes later, Villa found an equaliser through a Konstantinos Mavropanos own goal before Jarrod Bowen restored West Ham's lead in the 24th minute.
But Villa star Morgan Rogers put in a player of the match performance, scoring a second-half brace to hand Villa a 3-2 win.
