Pablo Zabaleta outlined Argentina star Enzo Fernandez’s next move, with Manchester United and Liverpool both believed to be interested.

Fernandez has been a breakout star of the World Cup group stages, having played a key role in Argentina overcoming their shock 2-1 defeat to Saudi Arabia in the opening game.

The 21-year-old midfielder scored a wonderful goal in La Albiceleste’s 2-0 win against Mexico and then assisted Julian Alvarez for his side's third goal against Poland.

Fernandez has also impressed for his club this term. The Argentina star signed for Benfica from River Plate last summer for just £10million and has since starred for Roger Schmidt side.

The midfielder has been a key cog in a Benfica side that are eight points clear at the summit of the Portuguese League table and topped their Champions League group ahead of Paris Saint-Germain.

Fernandez has performed so well he is already attracting interest from some of the biggest clubs in the world.

Zabaleta outlines Fernandez’s next move

Former Argentina and Manchester City full-back Zabaleta marvelled at Fernandez’s performance against Poland. Meanwhile, the 37-year-old outlined when Fernandez was likely to leave Benfica.

Speaking to the BBC Zabaleta said: "He’s been really good in both games, he’s been one of the best players for Argentina.

“He’s only 21 but he’s been fantastic and I think next summer, he will go to a big club.

“He’s got vision, his passing and shooting ability is great. He can play as a number four but also as a number eight."

Premier League rivals Man Utd and Liverpool are both thought to be interested in signing Fernandez. However, he will not come cheap.

Portuguese outlet Record claim that the midfielder has a €103million (£88.44million) release clause and Benfica will only accept offers that activate it.
