Jamie Carragher has revealed the changes he would make to the England starting eleven ahead of the last Euro 2024 group stage match with Slovenia.

England's opening day win against Serbia was far from inspiring, but what Gareth Southgate's men served up on Thursday made the previous performance look like gold dust.

Southgate's side again took an early and deserved lead as Kyle Walker caught the Danish defence lacking before finding Harry Kane who slotted home, but what followed was a similar story.

England completely dropped off Denmark allowing them to freely attack Jordan Pickford's goal, and they were eventually punished by an unstoppable strike from Morten Hjulmand who levelled the scores.

From that point on it was only really Denmark who ever looked like scoring, and England were in many ways lucky to escape Frankfurt with a very valuable point.

Southgate's selection has been a major talking point from pundits, with so many players out of position it was always going to be controversial.

However, writing in The Telegraph, former England international Jamie Carragher hasn't had an issue up to this point.

"It was worth a try and he was justified in sticking with it for one more fixture. It was a new line-up and the players needed a second chance. The manager wanted to get as much class on the pitch as possible," he explained.

Carragher is now insistent Southgate must make changes, however, and there are two key positions he believes need completely rethinking.

Unsurprisingly, the first being centre midfield, where Carragher believes the Trent Alexander-Arnold experiment 'hasn't worked' with the Liverpool defender being taken off shortly after halftime.

Carragher also wants to see Anthony Gordon come in for Phil Foden who showed glimpses of excellence but quite simply was not playing left wing.

"Unfortunately, two of the best Premier League footballers – Trent Alexander-Arnold and Phil Foden – will have to be sacrificed now," Carragher wrote.

"It has to be a midfielder who will bring energy across the pitch like Conor Gallagher, Adam Wharton, or Kobbie Mainoo. That’s not a negative move; it is an essential one.

"I would like to see a 4-3-3 with Saka and Anthony Gordon either side of Kane," he continued.

Jamie Carragher's England XI to face Slovenia: Jordan Pickford, Kyle Walker, John Stones, Marc Guehi, Kieran Trippier, Declan Rice, Conor Gallagher, Jude Bellingham, Bukayo Saka, Anthony Gordon, Harry Kane.
