England reached a World Cup milestone on Tuesday in their impressive 3-0 win over Wales.

Gareth Southgate's side booked their place in the last 16 of the competition with a morale-boosting victory in Doha.

Marcus Rashford was brought into the starting line-up by Soughate and made the most of his opportunity, putting England ahead with a superb free-kick shortly after the break.

England doubled their lead two minutes later, Phil Foden tapping in from close range after being set up by captain Harry Kane.

Rashford then sealed the win for England with his second of the match.

The Manchester United striker is now the joint-top scorer at the World Cup with three goals, along with Ecuador striker Enner Valencia, France's Kylian Mbappe and Netherlands forward Cody Gakpo.

Milestone goal for England

Rashford's second against Wales was a historic goal for England, the 100th scored by the Three Lions in the tournament finals.

England are the seventh nation to reach the landmark.

Brazil (232) and Germany (228) have scored the most World Cup goals by far.

Argentina (140) and Italy (128) are next on the all-time list, closely followed by Spain (107) and England.

Speaking after the win over Wales, Rashford revealed what Southgate said at half-time to help inspire his team to victory.

"At half-time the manager said 'we've played really well but the one thing that we can work better on is the shots at goal'," Rashford told BBC Sport.

"I think we only had one or two in the first half and we wanted to work the goalkeeper more.

"We kept getting in dangerous positions which I think we also did in the first half but in the second we made them count."

England will now face Africa Cup of Nations champions Senegal in their last 16 clash on Sunday.
