Didier Deschamps asked if Karim Benzema could make stunning return for France in World Cup final vs Argentina

Didier Deschamps asked if Karim Benzema could make stunning return for France in World Cup final vs Argentina

Karim Benzema is still in Didier Deschamps' 26-man France squad, despite missing the majority of the World Cup due to an injury.

France manager Didier Deschamps did not offer a clear-cut response on whether Karim Benzema could make a sensational return for the World Cup final against Argentina.

Defending World Cup champions France punched their ticket to the final with a hard-fought 2-0 win over underdogs Morocco on Wednesday at the Al-Bayt Stadium.

Deschamps’ men have excelled at the tournament in Qatar amid notable injuries to the likes of Paul Pogba, N’Golo Kante, Christopher Nkunku and Benzema.

Benzema was included in Deschamps’ 26-man France squad, but the Real Madrid striker has missed the World Cup due to injury.

However, the 34-year-old French striker could still pick up a World Cup winners’ medal if France beat Argentina in the final on Sunday at the Lusail Stadium.

Deschamps did not replace Benzema in his 26-man squad, but the France international has been linked with a stunning return before the end of the World Cup.

According to Marca, the 2022 Ballon d’Or winner has reportedly returned to full training with Madrid after recovering from his thigh injury.

When asked if Benzema could return for France for the World Cup final, Deschamps dismissed the question about the Los Blancos captain.

Speaking after France’s semi-final win on Wednesday, the France boss said: “I don’t really want to answer that question.

“Next question. I do apologise.”

Deschamps has insisted that his France side will do “everything humanly possible” to stop Lionel Messi from leading Argentina to the World Cup title.

“We will do everything humanly possible for that not to happen. At the end of the match, someone is getting a third star on their shirt,” he said.

Messi, who has been in sensational form at the World Cup, opened the scoring for Argentina in his side’s 3-0 semi-final win over Croatia on Tuesday.
