Cristiano Ronaldo Jr made his first Portugal U16s start over the weekend as the winger featured against Wales.
The son of legendary Portuguese forward Cristiano Ronaldo is hoping to make his mark in the game.
Ronaldo Jnr had the chance to declare for a number of nations on the international stage, including Spain and the USA, where he was born, but opted to follow in his father’s footsteps and play for Portugal.
‘Cristianinho’ represented his nation at U15 level, and scored two goals in four games, though he recently drew criticism for a seemingly sub-par showing against England.

Even so, he’s evidently done enough to move up an age group and made his full Portugal U16s debut at the Football Federations Cup in Turkey as he started the 3-0 win over Wales.
And his performances against Wales caught the eye as he scored the opening goal in the 42nd minute, slotting past the opposition goalkeeper with the sort of composure that would make the elder Ronaldo proud.
'What a finish!'
“Amazing goal by Cristiano Ronaldo Jr. for Portugal U16! Looks like the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree—future star in the making!,” one user posted as highlights of the game did the rounds.

Another added: “No pressure, just carrying one of the biggest names in football history. If he keeps working hard, the story writes itself. Interesting detail. Portugal’s U17 World Cup squad next week includes only players from domestic clubs.”

While a third posted: “CRISTIANO JR. WHAT A FINISH!!! Cristiano Ronaldo is building a monster no one is ready for.”
Portuguese media were also full of praise for Ronaldo Jr, who wrote: “His presence on the pitch was calm, confident, and poised, with his composure particularly impressing the coaching staff.”
What position does Ronaldo Jr play?
Ronaldo Jr has previously trained in the youth systems of Manchester United and Juventus, but currently plays for Al-Nassr U15s as he remains close to his father to maintain his development.

The teenager is able to play on either flank, but is strongest off the left wing coming onto his right foot, just as Ronaldo did at the start of his legendary career.
Ronaldo has been instrumental in Al-Nassr’s flying start to the Saudi Pro League season. Indeed, the Saudi giants sit top of the table having won their opening six matches, scoring 21 times in the process.
They’ll feel confident about extending that run against Al-Fayha on home turf on Saturday evening.
Ronaldo moved to Al-Nassr back in 2023, and recently signed a new two-year deal with the Saudi side despite turning 40 back in February.
