Premier League sides Liverpool, Tottenham and Newcastle have missed out on the signing of former Bayern Munich player Corentin Tolisso.

The 27-year-old Frenchman's contract with the German giants recently came to an end after five years.

Tolisso had a challenging time at Bayern where unfortunately he was plagued with injuries.

However, he did win five Bundesliga titles as well as a Champions League with the club, whilst also helping his nation to win the World Cup in 2020.

Following the news that he was expected to depart Nagelsmann's side, Premier League managers Klopp, Conte and Eddie Howe immediately took an interest in bringing the experienced midfielder into their sides, according to reports.

However, the Premier League trio have now missed out on the opportunity and Tolisso has been snapped up by his former club, Olympique Lyonnais.

Tolisso has a lot of history with the French side. He grew up playing for their youth squad, and went on to make 160 appearances for their first team, scoring 29 goals.

In this respect it looks like the player will be happy to return ‘home’ after a difficult stint in Germany

Tolisso stated that it’s “an immense pleasure” to return to his former side, going on to say that “Lyon is my city, it's where I grew up and where I feel good”.

Although Tolisso is evidently pleased with the move, Liverpool, Tottenham and Newcastle should be slightly disappointed that they missed out on the talented midfielder.

His great vision, crisp passing and solid tackling would have been a great addition to any of the Premier league sides who were interested in him.

His services would have been especially useful this year. The World Cup is being played late this season, and many teams will need to rely on squad depth to make it through.
