Conor McGregor has expressed his interest in purchasing Chelsea Football Club after reports emerged that Roman Abramovich is ready to sell the club after 19 years at the helm.

The former UFC champion, who played for local clubs Lourdes Celtic and Crumlin United during his childhood, has often expressed his admiration for the beautiful game.

In fact, he's not too shabby at playing it. Check out the clip of him scoring a few goals with his left peg below:

The ambitious McGregor knows a thing or two about football and now, he is keen to "explore" a bid to buy European champions Chelsea. In a post on Twitter, he wrote: "I wish to explore this @ChelseaFC."

Let's be clear. McGregor has expressed his lofty ambitions on Twitter in the past. Last year, the Irishman hinted at buying Manchester United after a frantic 48 hours resulted in executive vice-chairman Woodward stepping down.

"Hey guys," he tweeted. "I'm thinking about buying Manchester United! What do you think?"

The 33-year-old supported Sir Alex Ferguson's trophy-laden United side growing up. In a 2019 interview with FIFA, he said: “I was attracted to the success and winning mentality of the club and people surrounded by United.

"Irish legends like Denis Irwin and Roy Keane were dedicated to their craft and had that winning mentality.

"Roy Keane was one of the best midfielders European football has ever seen. Opponents would be mentally beaten before they’d even stepped on to the pitch to face him."

So has McGregor got a chance in buying Chelsea?

Well, on Tuesday, it was reported that three potential buyers were interested in the west London club, and Swiss billionaire Hansjorg Wyss has confirmed he has been approached by Abramovich to buy them.

"Like all other oligarchs, he is in a panic," Wyss told Swiss newspaper Blick.

"Abramovich is trying to sell all his villas in England. He also wants to get rid of Chelsea quickly. I and three other people received an offer on Tuesday to buy Chelsea from Abramovich."

Wyss, who is worth a reported £4.36 billion, confirmed that he won't be buying the club on his own.

"I have to wait four to five days now. Abramovich is currently asking far too much. You know, Chelsea owe him £2 billion," the billionaire added.

"As of today, we don't know the exact selling price.

"I can well imagine starting at Chelsea with partners. But I have to examine the general conditions first.

"But what I can already say, I'm definitely not doing something like this alone. If I buy Chelsea, then with a consortium consisting of six to seven investors."

Wyss has said he would need more investors to purchase Chelsea - could McGregor be one of them?
