Conor McGregor has issued a health update while also making a major demand to the UFC days after his failed comeback at UFC 329.
Despite the excitement during fight week ahead of McGregor’s rematch with Max Holloway, fans were left disappointed as the Irishman’s comeback lasted just 69 seconds.
The former two-weight champion started fast and attempted a high kick but missed before falling to the canvas.
After regaining his footing, McGregor began to hobble before referee Mike Beltran decided to call off the contest, handing Holloway the victory by technical knockout.

Hours after his defeat, McGregor posted the following statement on social media: “My head gasket is gone. Destroyed. I had no injury / injuries going into the fight. I was throwing kicks, planted and jumping, all throughout camp as well as backstage before the fight. This came out of nowhere. I am beyond dark here. I can only describe it as hell.”

In a second post, he added: “I was so sharp and so ready for this fight I cannot believe what has happened. The talk of me being off while walking in to the fight is nonsense. I was calm, ready, and confident. I am in shock what has taken place. The devil is literally staring at me right in front of my face here. I am not engaging. I will be at church tomorrow. I will overcome this. I will not be deterred. I will return.”
In the days that followed, several updates emerged regarding McGregor’s health, with the Irishman confirming he would have surgery in another statement in which he vowed to come back and fulfil the final fight on his UFC contract.
The specific prognosis of McGregor’s knee injury remains unclear despite suggestions from UFC president Dana White that he had “blown [his] ACL [anterior cruciate ligament].”
“I’m no doctor, but that’s what I figured when I saw it, and the doctors think the same thing, too,” White told reporters after UFC 329.
McGregor makes UFC demand after injury
Now, just under a week on from the fight, McGregor is demanding that the result be changed from a technical knockout victory for Holloway to a no contest.
Posting on Instagram, ‘The Mac’ wrote: “A few notes:
- I will have the results of the scan on my leg tomorrow.
- The fight should be a no contest and all bets returned.”
It remains unclear whether the UFC will overturn the result, with no real precedent having been set.
McGregor’s current professional MMA record is made up of 22 wins and seven defeats.
