He may have only been back at Borussia Dortmund for just under a week but Jadon Sancho has already made the Bundesliga club a serious amount of money from shirt sales.

The 23-year-old winger re-joined the Bundesliga outfit this month on a loan deal until the end of the 2023/24 campaign.

Sancho, who who was exiled from training with Manchester United's first-team squad in September following a public bust-up with Erik ten Hag, made his second debut for Dortmund on Saturday.

He would make an instant impact in the 3-0 win over Darmstadt 98, where he provided an assist for Marco Reus after coming off the bench.

After Saturday's full-time whistle, it was revealed that Sancho's impact has already extended beyond the pitch. German publication BILD suggest Dortmund will pay United €3 million [£2.5m] for the services of Sancho.

With that in mind, it appears BVB are already making a large chunk of that fee back after Sancho’s number ten shirt made over 5,000 sales in his first week.

Dortmund and their suppliers have therefore earned up to €500,000 in sales, according to the report, after fans rushed to the club shop to purchase their 'Sancho 10' jersey.

As well as the revenue from shirt sales, the overall engagement on Borussia Dortmund's social media channels has increased significantly in the past week or so.

Sancho, meanwhile, says he is looking forward to playing with “a smile on his face” after such a difficult season at Old Trafford.

Speaking on the day of his arrival, he said: "When I walked into the changing room today, it felt like coming home. I know the club inside out, I’ve always been very close to the fans here and I’ve never lost contact with the people in charge."

He added: “I can’t wait to see my teammates again, get out on the pitch, play football with a smile on my face, get assists, score goals and help the club qualify for the Champions League.”

Sancho's fellow countryman Harry Kane has also helped boost shirt sales at his new club, Bayern Munich. In fact, the Bundesliga club recouped around 12 percent of his transfer fee in shirt sales alone.
