Thomas Muller gave an explosive post-match interview following Bayern Munich's bruising defeat to Bayer Leverkusen on Saturday.

Bayern were comprehensively beaten by Leverkusen, who ran out 3-0 winners at the BayArena.

Josip Stanisic scored against his parent club to open the scoring while Alex Grimaldo and Jeremie Frimpong added a second and third in the second-half to record a huge win in the title race.

Leverkusen moved five points clear of the defending champions and remain unbeaten in the Bundesliga this season, having won 17 of their 21 league matches.

Xabi Alonso continued to enhance his reputation as he impressed fans following his on-field gesture after the final whistle.

As for the Bayern camp, Muller unleashed on his own teammates as he slammed their performance.

He also deflected the blame away from Thomas Tuchel, insisting the players have to do more.

Speaking to Sky Sports Germany, he exclaimed: "There are of course some symptoms on the pitch. To be honest, I'm p**sed off.

"To quote Oliver Kahn: What I miss from us players are the balls in the game. We are showing significantly better approaches in training. It's okay to feel pressure, but there needs to be energy and freedom. That's missing in our game."

The 34-year-old added: "Sometimes we have to speak about us players. It's not just about the coach.

"We have many international players at the highest level, we need to step up our game."

Tuchel also spoke to the media following his team's defeat.

He said: "We are not going to throw the towel on whatever matchday. For us the gap has changed, but the approach won't.

"We have to keep going, we have to get better and live up to the standards that Thomas [Muller] has also formulated."

Bayern have now lost three league games this season as they turn their attention to the Champions League.
