Thomas Tuchel gives Harry Kane injury update after Bayern Munich striker substituted days before England duty

Thomas Tuchel gives Harry Kane injury update after Bayern Munich striker substituted days before England duty

Kane has suffered a worrying injury.

Bayern Munich star Harry Kane has suffered an injury just days before he is due to join up with the England squad.

The Three Lions captain is enjoying the best season of his career, and on Saturday he created yet another piece of history.

Kane's goal in Bayern Munich's 5-2 defeat of Darmstadt was his 31st of the league season, breaking the record for the most goals scored in a debut Bundesliga campaign.

The 30-year-old also surpassed his previous best goal tally for a league season, which was 30.

Kane was of course included in Gareth Southgate's England squad for upcoming friendlies against Brazil and Belgium at Wembley Stadium.

However, the striker had to be substituted during the second half of Bayern's win on Saturday after he collided with the goalpost.

Kane was helped off the pitch and immediately substituted after the incident occurred with Bayern leading 4-1.

After the match, Bayern boss Thomas Tuchel confirmed that Kane has suffered an ankle issue.

"He collided with the post and twisted his ankle a bit – he had his ankle iced," Tuchel said.

"There’s still no diagnosis, we have to wait. I hope it’s nothing bad."

Injury could end Kane's hopes of breaking the all-time Bundesliga goals record of 41, set by ex-Bayern attacker Robert Lewandowski in the 2020-21 season.

Kane has now scored a remarkable 36 goals in 34 games in all competitions this season.

Bayern Munich have eight Bundesliga games remaining and find themselves seven points behind runaway leaders Bayer Leverkusen.

The Champions League represents Bayern's only realistic opportunity to win silverware this season, so Kane will hope to be fit for the quarter-final first leg trip to old foes Arsenal on April 9.
