Harry Kane broke a record held by Cristiano Ronaldo and Erling Haaland by scoring twice for Bayern Munich on Friday evening.

England captain Kane scored twice in a convincing 4-0 Bayern win over Bundesliga opponents Werder Bremen.

Centre-back Jonathan Tah opened the scoring on 22 minutes before Kane slotted a penalty on 45 minutes before doubling his tally for the evening with 35 minutes left on the clock at the Allianz Arena. Konrad Laimer added a fourth on 87 minutes.

Kane’s performance is no doubt a positive at the end of what may have been a slightly disappointing week, given the fact that he finished 13th in the race for the 2025 Ballon d’Or, which was received by Paris Saint-Germain forward Ousmane Dembele at a ceremony in Paris, France, on Monday.

Many were surprised that Kane missed out on being in the top ten as the England man made 53 goal contributions during the 2024/25 campaign, helping Bayern win the Bundesliga.

One fan said: "Harry Kane is genuinely the most disrespected footballer of all time. It's not even a debate. You're telling me twelve players had a better year than him? No chance."

Another added: "Harry Kane out of the world’s top 10 according to some some awards, they’re just subjective awards, but it still pi**es me off how they always undermine Bayern, Harry Kane should make the top 10 with ease, what a disgrace."

But Kane’s Friday evening played out somewhat better than his Monday night.

Of course, he will be thrilled to have scored twice and helped his side go further clear at the summit of the German top-flight, but he also achieved a remarkable feat.

When netting his second strike, he became the fastest player ever to reach 100 goals for a club in Europe’s top five leagues.

Kane reached the milestone in his 104th appearance, beating the previous record of 105 appearances held by Ronaldo from his time at Real Madrid and Manchester City’s Haaland.

The former Spurs striker has started the 2025/26 campaign in fine form, registering 13 goals and three assists in just seven appearances in all competitions.

Fans on X gave their thoughts on Kane’s achievement.

One said: “Brother you joined them just 2 years ago."

Another added: “They put the greatest pure goalscorer of all time in a league that leaks goals."

While a third claimed: “Kane is the Ballon d'Or 2026 winner as of now."
