England secure U21 Euro final spot after beating Israel

England secure U21 Euro final spot after beating Israel

England are one step away from lifting the trophy

England have advanced to the final of the U21 Euro after beating Israel in the semi-final.

The young Three Lions arrived at the semi-final stage with a 100 per cent record after beating the Czech Republic, Israel, Germany and Portugal without conceding a single goal.

During their first meeting with Israel in the group stage, England sealed a 2-0 win thanks to goals from Anthony Gordon and Emile Smith Rowe.

On Wednesday evening, Lee Carsley’s men were looking to reach the final for the first time since 2009.

England were dominant from the start and were given an opportunity to open the scoring after a penalty was given in their favour with 13 minutes on the clock.

However, Nottingham Forest star Morgan Gibbs White was unable to convert from 12 yards as his shot failed to hit the target.

But Gibbs White was able to make amends as he gave his side the lead after 41 minutes with a brilliant looping header.

In the second half, England doubled their lead with 63 minutes on the clock after Cole Palmer poked in a second from close range.

Palmer was made to wait after a long VAR check for possible offside but the goal was eventually given.

With one minute of normal time remaining, England made it 3-0 thanks to a neat finish by substitute Cameron Archer.

Speaking prior to the match, Carsley said that his side are not the favourites to win the tournament.

He said: “We spoke about making sure we don't look forward to the game too much because I've been there before myself as a player where you almost play the game in your mind and when you get to the game, you're done.

“We're both in the semi-final and I don't see ourselves as favourites.”

England will now face either Spain or Ukraine in the final, which will take place on Saturday afternoon.
