Barcelona’s Memphis Depay ‘No Longer Part Of Xavi’s Plans For Next Season’

Barcelona’s Memphis Depay ‘No Longer Part Of Xavi’s Plans For Next Season’

The Dutchman could be set for a move away from the Nou Camp.

Dutch international Memphis Depay has been reportedly told by Barcelona manager Xavi that he is no longer needed at the club.

According to reports in Spain, the Catalan club are open to selling Depay in order to fund a move for Leeds United winger Raphinha

According to Sportsmail, Barcelona made a bid for Raphinha but it falls short of Chelsea’s offer of £60 million, which has been accepted by Leeds.

The Brazilian’s agent, Deco is waiting to see if Barcelona will be able to up their offer after a cash injection following the investment from Sixth Street for 10% of the club’s TV rights for the next 25 years, the deal is reportedly worth £229 million.

During the 21/22 season, Depay started to fall down Xavi’s pecking order due to injuries and signings in the January transfer window.

According to Spanish news outlet Marca, the Dutchman has been told by Xavi this week that he is no longer part of the Spaniard’s plans for the upcoming season.

It has been reported that an offer in the region of £21.5 million would be enough for Barcelona to part ways with the 28-year-old winger. And the club will then use the fund to lure Raphinha to the Nou Camp.

Earlier on this week, Depay took to social media to send out a cryptic message, with many believing that was his reaction to his current situation at Barcelona.

He tweeted: “I see how certain tactics been played around me as a football player.”

“It’s all good, God like this about me.. that’s why im favored.”

“My whole life i wasn’t good enough, didn’t apply to the standard looks and didn’t have the right behavior.”

“That’s what happens when you live freely.”

Xavi is thought to prefer the likes of Ferran Torres, Ansu Fati and Abde ahead of Depay, the club is also waiting for a decision from Ousmane Dembele after he was offer a new deal to stay at the club. Dembele is now a free agent after his contract expired on Friday.

However, Depay is believed to be keen to stay at Barcelona and fight for a place in the team, but the club has made their decision and will not have a change of heart.

Since he joined the club from Lyon as a free agent last summer, the Dutchman has scored 12 goals in 28 La Liga appearances.

With the new season fast approaching, it remains to be seen whether Depay will leave the Catalan club.
