Argentina players forced to fly over Buenos Aires by helicopter after wild World Cup parade is abandoned

Argentina's World Cup parade has been abandoned with the players forced to leave the area by helicopter.

The wild celebrations in Buenos Aires took a turn for the worse when fans started jumping from bridges onto the team's open-top bus.

In one viral video, a fan can be seen leaping onto the bus from an overpass.

But in scary scenes, the supporter loses his footing and falls backwards off the bus and into the sea of people.

In another clip, someone can be seen being wheeled away in a stretcher, although it's unknown whether this was the same person who fell from the bus.

Overall, it looked like absolute chaos.

When footage of the incident flooded social media, fans were quick to react.

One said: “My sources tell me it’s a Ronaldo fan trying to steal the World Cup for him.”

Another tweeted: “I think it’s time for them to reconsider these seats.”

While a third fan added: “Ronaldo trying hard to steal the world cup.”

As a result, the victory parade was cut short.

A spokesman for the Argentina FA said: "The players of the Argentine soccer team ended the festivities by flying over in a helicopter over the crowd of fans who gathered in the city.

"They made that decision after verifying that they could not continue advancing by bus in the middle of the crowd."

AFA president Claudio Tapia added: "They don't let us get to greet all the people who were at the Obelisk.

"The same security agencies that escorted us don't allow us to move forward."

Reports from The Sun suggest four million people packed the streets to witness the squad's trip 50-miles journey.

Instead, Lionel Messi and the rest of the World Cup-winners flew above the crowd in a helicopter, advised by security to stay well away.

As for the World Cup final itself, it was a truly nail-biting spectacle with Argentina ending their 36-year for silverware.

The team's manager Lionel Scaloni said: “I cannot believe that we have suffered so much in a perfect game. Unbelievable, but this team responds to everything.

“I am proud of the work they did. It is an exciting group. With the blows we received today, with the draws, this makes you emotional. I want to tell people to enjoy it, it's a historic moment for our country.”
