27.8 Per Cent Of Fans Think England Will Win The World Cup

After reaching the Euro 2020 final and a strong qualifying campaign, England are one of the favourites for the 2022 World Cup.

28 per cent of fans believe England will go all the way and win the World Cup in Qatar.

England reached the World Cup semi-finals in Russia, achieving the team's best display at the tournament since 1990 before succumbing to a narrow extra time defeat to Croatia.

Last summer, at the Euros, the Three Lions got to their first final since 1966 only to lose in agonising fashion on penalties to Italy at Wembley.

But after years of underperforming, England's talent squad are now firmly among the favourites for the first ever winter World Cup.

SPORTbible asked fans on Twitter to predict how far Gareth Southgate's side will go and the vast majority (32.2%) reckon quarter-finals or round of 16.

24.7% went for the semi-final or final and 27.8% think it's going to be like 1966 over again, with England winning the World Cup for the second time.

Finally, 15.4% are not optimistic in the slightest and think England won't make it past the group stage - something that happened in 2010 and 2014.

8,000 votes were cast in the Twitter poll.

England had a near-perfect World Cup qualifying campaign, winning eight, drawing two and losing zero to take 26 points from ten games.

As they sit fifth in the FIFA world rankings, they will be in pot one for Friday's group stage draw and therefore avoid some of the big boys.

Defending champions France, hosts Qatar, Brazil, Argentina, Germany and Portugal cannot be paired with England.

Only two European teams can be drawn in the same group.
