Real Madrid are on the verge of creating Club World Cup history after their 1-0 win over Juventus in the round of 16.

Los Blancos took on Juve at the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami on Tuesday.

Xabi Alonso's side won two of their three group stage matches to top their group, with a 1-1 draw against Al Hilal the only blot on the copybook.

But unlike Al Hilal's other elite European opposition, Manchester City, Real avoided an early elimination from the tournament.

Castilla striker Gonzalo Garcia, who again was named in the starting lineup as Kylian Mbappe returns to fitness, scored a 54th-minute header from Trent Alexander-Arnold's cross.

They are now one step closer to creating a special piece of history in their next fixture.

Borussia Dortmund will face Real in the quarter-finals if they can defeat Mexican side Monterrey on Tuesday night.

That would create the prospect of a brother versus brother showdown between Real Madrid's Jude and Borussia Dortmund's Jobe Bellingham.

Such an occurrence has never taken place in any edition of the Club World Cup.

Jobe signed for the Bundesliga outfit earlier this summer for a fee of £25 million, having helped Sunderland to promotion from the Championship.

The attacking midfielder scored his first goal for the club in a 4-3 win over Mamelodi Sundowns, before assisting Daniel Svensson for the only goal in a 1-0 win over Ulsan HD.

Although he followed in his brother's footsteps by joining Dortmund directly from a Championship side - in Jude's case it was Birmingham - Jobe has said that is where he wants the comparison to end.

"I don't really care how it looks," he told DAZN. "But it might look a bit contradictory to some people.

"For me, it was about choosing the right path, not necessarily a different one. I don't think my path has been the same as Jude's at all."
