Martin Brundle revealed his true feelings towards his famous grid walk interviews after making an embarrassing mistake at the Miami Grand Prix.

On Sunday evening, 2025 Formula One season continues as the Miami Grand Prix gets underway at the International Autodrome.

Ahead of the race, Sky Sports legend Brundle will undoubtedly carry out some of his famous grid walk interviews with some of the biggest names in the sport and celebrities in attendance.

However, the Miami Grand Prix also brings up bad memories for Brundle, who once made a mistake that led to him making a brutally honest admission about how he feels about doing the grid walk.

Having done his iconic grid walk interviews for over 27 years, Brundle has spoken to some massive names including Kylian Mbappe, Pep Guardiola and Ed Sheeran.

But, having done the interviews for so long, of course the broadcaster has made a few mistakes, and none are quite so bad as during the 2022 Miami Grand Prix.

As Brundle walked across the grid looking for big names to interview, he spotted NFL superstar Patrick Mahomes soaking in the atmosphere ahead of the race, or so he thought.

He approached who he believed to be Mahomes and asked him what it's like to be in the middle of all the action in the grid, before realising that he was actually speaking to NBA player Paolo Banchero.

“OK. It’s not Patrick,” Brundle awkwardly admitted during the interview.

“That’s why he ignored me in the beginning.

“What is your name Sir?” Brundle added to correct his mistake.

“Paolo Banchero,” the basketball player replied.

“Right well, I thought I was talking to somebody else. Sorry about that,” an embarrassed Brundle responded.

Unfortunately for Brundle, the moment later went viral online, leading to him releasing a statement on X admitting that he doesn't enjoy doing the famous interviews.

Brundle wrote: "There's a reason why I've never watched back an F1 grid walk in a quarter of a century of doing them. "You have no idea how much I dislike doing them but, somehow, those crazy moments have defined my professional career. Oh well, that's the way it is."

However, thankfully, both Banchero and Mahomes appeared to appreciate the funny side of the moment, as they also took to social media to react to the viral clip.

Replying to a post joking about the clip, Banchero added several laughing emojis and wrote: I’m jus vibing right now man."

Prompting a reply from the NFL quarterback, who added more laughing emojis, writing: "Bro ain’t no way."
