Lando Norris’ immediate reaction to Max Verstappen clinching his fourth consecutive F1 Drivers' Championship at the Las Vegas Grand Prix has gone viral.

It has been arguably the hardest-fought of his title wins to date but after a tricky second half of the season, Verstappen and Red Bull have managed to get over the line.

The 27-year-old finished fifth at the Las Vegas Grand Prix, meaning he secured a 63 point-lead over nearest rival Lando Norris with two races to spare.

As a result, he became the sixth driver in the sport's history to win at least four world championships, joining Juan Manuel Fangio, Alain Prost, Michael Schumacher, Sebastian Vettel and Lewis Hamilton in doing so.

It was an emotional race for Verstappen, who appeared to be crying on his warm-down lap. "Oh my God, what a season," he could be heard telling his team. "Four times. A little bit more difficult than last year. Thank you guys.”

Shortly after the F1 title was confirmed, McLaren's Norris paid tribute to Verstappen. As you can see from the footage below, the British driver could be seen giving Verstappen a thumbs up before clapping his opponent.

Here's how fans on social media reacted to the moment.

One said: "They could never make me hate you," while another commented: "Maybe all the hate can finally stop now."

A third wrote: "And people call him selfish and all the names under the book. Lando congratulating Max."

A fourth said: "Finally is being nice and not a massive ego, I'm telling you he’s gonna have a good fight in 2025 if that McLaren is actually decent," and a fifth added: "When your title fight is finally over and you don't have to pretend to dislike your closest friend anymore."

Footage soon emerged from Verstappen onboard camera, and it shows him responding by giving Norris a thumbs up.

Speaking after his latest championship triumph, Verstappen gave an insight into the last few months.

“It’s been a long season," he said. "We started off amazing, it was almost like cruising but then we had a tough run but as a team we kept it together.

"I'm incredibly proud of everyone what they have done for me, to stand here as a four time world champion is something that I never thought possible. Standing here feeling relieved in a way but very proud. To be standing here as a four-time world champion is incredible."

He added: “It was a very challenging season. Also as a person at times it’s very challenging and I had to be calm. I think in a way, I preferred last season but this season taught me a lot of lessons and I’m very proud of how we handled that as a team.”

Red Bull team principal Christian Horner also spoke about the win. “It’s been a rollercoaster of a year and Max has been truly outstanding," he said.

"We had a difficult summer but he kept nailing the results. I think this has been his best and hardest championship. He’s shown maturity and he’s delivered on the days when the car wasn’t quite there and there is no one more deserving of this championship than Max.

“This one has been hard won and all credit to all the men and women behind the scenes in milton Keynes who have put in tireless hours. The others have pushed us really hard this year and it’s been by far our hardest challenge this year.”
