Daniel Ricciardo breaks silence on F1 future following 'sacking' rumours

Daniel Ricciardo breaks silence on F1 future following 'sacking' rumours

The Australian driver has finally spoken out.

Formula One driver Daniel Ricciardo has finally spoken out about the rumours that he has been sacked from the sport.

Ricciardo is no doubt one of the most popular drivers on the Formula One grid, with his charismatic personality and humour winning over fans of the sport.

After stints with teams like Red Bull, Renault and McLaren, the Australian now drives for Racing Bulls Formula One Team alongside Yuki Tsunoda.

However, after producing disappointing results for the team, rumours began circulating that he had been sacked, and now Ricciardo has finally responded.

Reports have suggested that after this weekend's Singapore Grand Prix, the 35-year-old will be replaced by rookie Liam Lawson, perhaps spelling the end of his 15 year Formula One career.

When asked to address the rumours on Sky Sports, he said: "I can't until after the weekend, I think that is when decisions will be made, for us that know the contracts, that is where the dates fall so after the weekend we'll know more.

"Look, I know how it is and how it works and there was always going to be some deadlines this year and post Singapore is the next one.

"So many things are up in the air, let's see how the weekend goes. Obviously i'm going to give it all I can, there's always something to fight for."

Ricciardo returned to F1 in the middle of last season, replacing Nyck de Vries, but has struggled to find form as he currently sits 14th in this driver standings, 10 points behind team-mate Tsunoda.

Should Racing Bull want to replace him with Lawson, post-Singapore would be a perfect time as the sport takes a four week break before the final six races of the season.

In a later written briefing on Thursday, Ricciardo provided another update when asked if Singapore would be his last reace for Racing Bull, saying: "I would say no, but also we know how the sport works. So, I don't want to say '100 per cent I will bet all my house on it'. I've been around for too long.

"What's crazy about the sport is if I go and get a podium this weekend then I'm probably the hottest thing in the sport.

"That's the kind of the merry go round we're on and I know it can change so quickly. So look, I'm aware that things are hotting up, so to speak, but I just have to try and get my head down this weekend."
