Michael van Gerwen was in no doubt when asked which of nine-darter, 147 break or hole-in-one is most difficult to do

Three-time world darts champion Michael van Gerwen had a clear answer when asked which is the tougher feat.

Michael van Gerwen had absolutely no hesitation in answering the debate about what is more difficult to accomplish out of a nine-darter, 147 break or hole-in-one.

Van Gerwen, a three-time world champion, has hit 29 nine-darters in his incredible career and might just be looking to be adding to his tally in Friday night's World Darts Championship final against Luke Littler given a whopping £60,000 is up for grabs for the play.

For a few years now, there has been plenty of debate as to what is a tougher feat: a perfect leg in darts, a 147 in snooker or a hole-in-one in golf.

When Van Gerwen appeared on the Happy Hour podcast, presenter JaackMaate asked 'Mighty Mike' the burning question about which is harder and he was in absolutely no doubt.

"147. 100 per cent," the Dutchman replied.

A surprised JaackMaate told Van Gerwen: "I thought as a darts player, you would have said nine would have been the hardest."

"There are so many more factors," Van Gerwen continued.

"I think the hole-in-one is the easiest. I know people who have done a hole-in-one who have a handicap of 15 or 16 but an average darts player can't get a nine-darter."

A 147 break is achieved when a player pots all 15 reds with 15 blacks for 120 points, followed by all six colours for an extra 27 points.

Over 200 maximum breaks have been recognised in professional tournaments, with the legendary Ronnie O'Sullivan holding the record with a whopping 15 in his decorated career.

One person to have achieved the feat

Meanwhile, snooker player Shaun Murphy claims he could well be the only person to have completed the hat-trick of a nine-darter, 147 and hole in-one.

"I’ve only had one hole-in-one and I’ve only had one nine-darter but as I sit here talking to you, I’m not aware of anyone else who’s done all three," he said on the From the Clubhouse podcast.

"People can send their applications in any way they want. There’s lots of room to join the club.

“We were down in that neck of the woods (Royal Worlington) doing a charity snooker night. It was the 7th and we couldn’t see. It was quite misty still at that time. We hit good shots but didn’t get to see the ball go in the hole. We got to the green, couldn’t find it, checked the hole and there it was. I’ve been close on a few occasions since but never actually got one in."
