Michael van Gerwen will potentially face a fine from the Darts Regulation Authority after he reached the PDC World Championship final with a convincing 6-1 victory over Chris Dobey.

The 35-year-old Dutchman, who has not lifted the Sid Waddell Trophy since 2019, will take part in his seventh World Championship final on Thursday night after he recorded an average of over 98 against Dobey.

It was a dominant performance from Van Gerwen but rather than his dominant performance on the oche, many were talking about the language he used during a post-match interview with Sky Sports presenter Abigail Davies.

Speaking in the on-stage interview, he began: "I can be happy with the performance. Of course, I wasn't playing as explosive as I was in the last game, but I was efficient.

"I'm here with a mission, with a target. This part of it [the doubling] will always have ups and downs, but today I showed, I think, a lot of mentality. Even when things were not going my way I was still able to do good stuff at good moments."

Van Gerwen added: "To win on this stage, in a semi-final, means a lot to me. But what I always say - we are not even close yet. I still have to battle tomorrow, it's going to be another day. And the title's still far away. I don't want to make mistakes."

Then, after a fairly standard speech, the Dutchman delivered a line that took many by surprise. "I'm only in the final," he said. "I've won f**k all yet!"

Davies quickly apologised after Van Gerwen dropped the F-bomb live on air, saying: "We are going to have to apologise for that language."

In fact, the man himself apologised as he laughed off the incident.

But a report from the Express suggests Van Gerwen could face a fine from the Darts Regulation Authority for his so-called 'colourful language', although any penalty will 'pale in comparison' to the £500,000 prize money if he does beat Luke Littler in the final.

Last month, fellow Dutch player Vincent van der Voort claimed Van Gerwen "gets away with everything" when it comes to fines.

Speaking on the Darts Draait Door podcast, he said: "Van Gerwen almost never gets fined. Somehow, he is protected. That has been the case from the beginning."

He added: "I only have to look at someone and then it's not good. I get another fine. But Michael always gets a warning, I swear to you. He always gets away with everything, he's always lucky."
