Luke Littler can achieve darts feat even Phil Taylor never managed and he's only five tournaments away

Luke Littler is on the verge of achieving a feat not even Phil Taylor could pull off; the 19-year-old is five titles away from completing a clean sweep of darts majors in 2026.

Littler is currently competing in the World Series of Darts Finals, which concludes on September 20. If victorious, the Englishman will be just four major titles away from completing the 2026 sweep, as per Sky Sports.

The World Grand Prix will follow, which runs from September 28 to October 4, then the European Championship in late October, and the Grand Slam of Darts and Players Championship Finals in November.

How can Luke Littler achieve an unprecedented clean sweep of darts majors in 2026?

In 2026, Littler has already won the World Championship, World Masters, UK Open, Premier League, World Cup, with fellow countryman Luke Humphries, and the World Matchplay.

Next up is the World Series of Darts, at which Michael van Gerwen is the reigning champion, having beaten Littler in 2025.

The Englishman does have prior experience in winning the major, prevailing against fellow countryman Michael Smith in 2024.

Should Littler emerge victorious this Sunday, he would remain on track to achieve a calendar year feat that not even 87-time major-winning Taylor, the greatest champion in darts history, could pull off.

The World Grand Prix will follow, which, bizarrely, requires players to hit a double before opening the scoring in Leicester.

Littler previously described the major as “one of the toughest tournaments to win,” and told Sky Sports that he doesn’t practice the double start regularly.

"I think it's obviously one of the toughest tournaments to win, with the Worlds, the Matchplay, the Premier League. But the double start: if you don't get off, then you're in trouble,” claimed Littler.

"I can't say I really practice the double start often. Obviously, leading up to it, I think I'll have to, [to] just get used to it. Every year we'll see someone hit a treble 20 first out, and then they forget.

Again, the Englishman has won that major previously, beating fellow World Cup winner Humphries in the event’s 2025 final.

Next is the European Championship, which remains the sole major to have evaded Littler throughout his stellar, multi-title-winning career.

With victory in Dortmund, he would achieve another historic feat: holding all of darts’ major titles simultaneously, which van Gerwen came one event away from achieving in both 2016 and 2017.

That accomplishment differs from winning all of darts’ majors in a single year: it also includes Littler’s late-stage 2025 wins, at events in which he hasn’t yet been dethroned by 2026 victors.

Taylor also completed this feat, holding all possible titles between 2009 and 2010, but in an era with fewer major events. The 19-year-old would become the first to do so with darts’ current schedule.

Moving forward, Littler would next have to achieve a three-peat at the Grand Slam of Darts in November, before attempting to complete the calendar year feat in Minehead, at the Players Championship Finals.

To qualify for the latter tournament, he will need to accumulate further prize money at the six remaining Players Championship events in 2026. Littler is currently positioned, at minimum, £17,500 in earnings behind the qualification spots.

Luke Littler on hopes of achieving the darts major sweep in 2026

The Englishman recently confessed that it would be “gutting” to see his pursuit of the 2026 sweep end in Amsterdam, ahead of the World Series of Darts.

“Not winning would be the end of trying to get every Major,” Littler acknowledged. “Yeah, it’d be gutting, but I’ve got all the attributes to go on and win the title again.”

Van Gerwen poses a dangerous threat to Littler’s run of 2026 major dominance, having previously beaten him in Amsterdam, the Dutchman’s home turf, in 2025.

The 19-year-old holds an 18-10 head-to-head record against van Gerwen, and beat him recently in the semi-finals of the Czech Darts Open.

“Michael [van Gerwen] was playing very well in Czechia,” Littler said. “He didn’t play his best game against me and I’ve just got to take advantage of it. I’ve got to get those wins under my belt against Michael.”

On whether the Dutchman worries him ahead of a potential match-up at the World Series, Littler said: “In 2024, I won it. Then in 2025, Michael beat me. “I’ve got a good record over there at the World Series. Hopefully we can go and win it, and keep the clean sweep on.”

Eight-time major winner Humphries also chimed in ahead of Littler's tournament commencing, to offer his support for the 19-year-old. "If I don't win a major [this year] then I'd love to see him do it. It would be the most incredible thing I've ever seen in my lifetime," said the Englishman.
