Chaos unfolds at the World Cup of Darts as Chinese Taipei player leaves teammate stunned with unusual blunder

It was a moment to forget for Pupo Teng-Lieh.

Chinese Taipei's Pupo Teng-Lieh was involved in a war of words with teammate An-Sheng Lu after he made an almighty blunder in their World Cup of Darts group stage clash against India on Friday.

This year’s World Cup of Darts tournament will see 40 nations go head-to-head at the Eissporthalle in Frankfurt, with group and knockout stages featuring doubles matches throughout.

Luke Humphries and Luke Littler will be aiming to secure a record-extending sixth World Cup crown for England, while Jonny Clayton and Gerwyn Price are set to feature for Wales after guiding their country to a brace of titles in 2020 and 2023.

Gary Anderson and Peter Wright, meanwhile, have been paired together for two-time winners Scotland, while Josh Rock will form a new-look pairing with Daryl Gurney for fourth seeds Northern Ireland.

Away from the high-profile names and on day two of the tournament, Chinese Taipei came up against Team India in what was an eventful first round game.

Having surged into a 3-0 lead, Chinese Taipei were on the verge of a whitewash win when Pupo Teng-Lieh allowed India's Mohan Kumar-Goel a way into the match following an almighty mix-up.

As you can see from the footage below, Pupo Teng-Lieh thought the leg was already over, so he went for treble 20 instead of a double 19 to seal the match – a decision that angered teammate An-Sheng Lu, who was visibly fuming with the unfolding events.

"He thinks the leg is already over, and Team India capitalise to open their account," the PDC wrote on X, formerly Twitter. "An-Sheng Lu is not a happy man."

After another miscount from Pupo Teng-Lieh in the fifth leg, Chinese Taipei stumbled over the finish line with their 11th match dart as they secured a memorable victory over India.

Here's how fans on social media reacted to the confusing scenes in Germany.

One said: "The best tournament on the circuit. Bar none," and a second commented: "This is just pure cinema. This is what makes these types of tournaments brilliant watches."

A third wrote: "Reason number 101 why the World Cup is my favourite Darts tourney."

A fourth said: "Yes the World Cup is back. Forget the result this was carnage of the highest order," and a fifth added: "The greatest competition in the world."
