England white-ball captain Harry Brook has issued a public statement after being fined £30,000 by the English Cricket Board (ECB) for an altercation with a bouncer.
Brook, who has been England’s white-ball captain since April of 2025, is now reportedly on his “final warning” for his conduct after reports emerged about a “late-night altercation” with a bouncer in New Zealand ahead of the Ashes.
England played three ODIs and three T20 matches in New Zealand in October and November before the disastrous Ashes series in Australia.
A report from The Telegraph revealed that Brook was close to being sacked as white-ball captain following an investigation by the team’s management after he was “struck by a bouncer” who would not allow him entry into a nightclub.

The Yorkshire batsman reported the incident to the management ahead of the third ODI at the Sky Stadium in Wellington, during which he scored just six as England lost by two wickets, completing a 3-0 series white wash for the Black Caps.
Brook apologised for his actions in a statement: “I want to apologise for my actions. I fully accept that my behaviour was wrong and brought embarrassment to both myself and the England team.
“Representing England is the greatest honour of all, which I take seriously and I am deeply sorry for letting down my team-mates, coaches and supporters. I have reflected on the lessons it has taught me about responsibility, professionalism and the standards expected of those representing your country.
“I am determined to learn from this mistake and to rebuild trust through my future actions, both on and off the field. I apologise unreservedly and will work hard to ensure this does not happen again.”
The news comes just a few weeks after England Cricket launched an investigation after several members of the squad were accused of drinking heavily, and a mid-series trip to the Queensland town of Noosa was described as a “glorified stag do”.

Although no further action was taken.
The incident is yet another negative to come out of the disastrous 4-1 Ashes series defeat, during which Brook scored 358 runs at an average of 40.85 with a highest score of 85.
The 26-year-old will lead England at the upcoming T20 World Cup in India and Sri Lanka, which will get underway in February.
