Day five of the fifth test between England and India at the Kia Oval was completely bizarre for more reasons than one - and Piers Morgan was left red-faced after several tweets about the action.
England came into the final day of what has been a riveting test series against the visitors, knowing that 35 runs stood between them and a 3-1 series victory in the Anderson-Tendulkar trophy.
India needed four wickets to level the series at 2-2.
And the tourists started well, when Jamie Smith nicked a Mohammed Siraj ball, leaving England seven down. Siraj then caught Jamie Overton leg before wicket, meaning Josh Tongue walked out with 20 needed.

Tongue didn’t last long and was bowled by Prasidh Krishna, meaning against all odds, an injured Chris Woakes took to the field with his left arm tucked underneath his jumper in a sling, having injured his shoulder while fielding on Thursday.

But a brave Woakes put his body on the line for his country as England, with one wicket remaining, needed 17 runs.
Gus Atkinson then slogged a six, bringing the total within 11. But it was India who had the last laugh when Siraj bowled Atkinson, securing India a six-run win to level the series at 2-2.

Both Indian and English fans were quick to praise Woakes’ bravery, while well-known journalist Piers Morgan even took to X to offer some kind words.
Morgan wrote: “Our final man comes in, wearing a sling for his bust shoulder so he’ll bat one-handed. Incredible courage by Woakes. What amazing drama.”
But some fans think Morgan ‘jinxed’ England with a second tweet, which read: “Atkinson is such a cool customer. Perfect guy to have in this extremely tense situation. As for Woakes, he should get an immediate knighthood if we win this.”
Just moments later, Atkinson was bowled and fans were quick to react on social media.

One wrote: “Well done, Piers. Top work.”
Another added: “Moral victory though Piers.”
A third claimed: "Stop jinxing it."
Morgan then posted a further message congratulating India.

"Congrats to India, and especially Siraj," Morgan wrote. "He was brilliant today as he has been all summer. What a match, what a series… God, I love Test cricket.
"But jeez, the torment of losing like that is agonising!"
And despite basking in the joy of what proved to be a hard-fought victory, India's players were also quick to praise Woakes.
Captain Shubman Gill said: "I didn't expect him to come out like that, batting with one hand. Kudos to him."
