Earlier on Friday, Manchester City confirmed Stefan Ortega's free transfer to the Etihad Stadium.

Taking the number 18 shirt, it is expected that the German goalkeeper will be competing with Ederson for the number one spot and featuring in some of the domestic competitions.

With Ortega's arrival, Zack Steffen is likely to move on in search of regular game-time before the FIFA World Cup this Winter in Qatar.

The USMNT international has been strongly linked with Chris Wilder's Middlesbrough in the Championship and is expected to leave on loan for 12 months.

Moving back to Stefan Ortega, and the 29-year-old is largely known for his style of play and his ability to compete with the best goalkeepers in the Bundesliga.

Last year, Ortega was involved in one assist and made 128 saves - the second most in the division.

Speaking to Manchester City after signing a three-year deal with the Premier League champions, the German has backed himself to rise to the levels required in a Pep Guardiola team.

“I’m ambitious. I’m ambitious enough to show my best performances, to show every teammate, and push every teammate in this team to be the best," Ortega began.

"I’m looking forward to working with the guys, with the training team, with goalkeeper coach Xabi (Mancisidor), and also with the goalkeeping team. I’m really happy.”

Discussing his personality in and around the dressing room, Stefan Ortega believes it is important to keep a friendly but competitive culture at the club.

He continued: “I think I’m a good type, I make a lot of jokes, I’m a funny guy."

"But on the pitch, I want to win every game; a training game, a real game. I’m ambitious, I want to reach the top. I’m a modern goalkeeper, good with the feet, good shot-stopper."

"But I think I’m not at my highest level now, so I hope Xabi (Mancisidor) can help me a lot here.”

One of the most important aspects of goalkeeping under Pep Guardiola is build-up play.

As shown with Ederson, it is vitally important for 'keepers in this Manchester City team to be competent with the ball at their feet.

It is something that Ortega believes he can deal with.

“Yes, it is one of the reasons why I wanted to join here, at this club, because I know the style of Pep (Guardiola) and I love to see how Man City play football."

"I think I also have the quality to show in performance,” he concluded.
