Fabrizio Romano Provides Significant Update On Riyad Mahrez's Manchester City Future

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has provided the latest and most significant update on Riyad Mahrez's future at the Etihad Stadium.

While the likes of Kevin De Bruyne, Rodri and Bernardo Silva were rightly lauded for their heroic contributions during a successful 2021/22 season for Manchester City, Riyad Mahrez is one player that deserves recognition for his sparkling displays.

Registering 23 goals and nine assists across all competitions, the Algerian international icon enjoyed his most productive season since the unforgettable 2015/16 campaign for Leicester in which he was voted the PFA Players’ Player of the Year.

Despite the fact that the winger was one of Manchester City’s most in-form performers throughout the course of the previous season, a cloud hangs over the player’s future at the Etihad Stadium, with only a year left on his current deal.

Alongside fellow forwards such as Raheem Sterling and Gabriel Jesus, of which the latter looks dead set for a switch elsewhere in the coming weeks, Riyad Mahrez could well join the Brazilian international to depart East Manchester in the summer.

A rumour that was once constantly doing the rounds discussed how Paris Saint-Germain were eyeing the 2019 AFCON winner as a replacement for Angel Di Maria, who has since departed the French capital on a free transfer.

In addition, Chelsea have also been speculated to be targeting a shock bid to unsettle the revered wideman to West London, considering Thomas Tuchel’s side’s well-documented attacking struggles.

While one can keep making assumptions about where the 31-year old’s summer plans lie, a new update has emerged about the four-time Premier League champion’s future at the club.

As per a report by journalist Fabrizio Romano, a departure for Riyad Mahrez should not be anticipated ‘any time soon’.

The renowned transfer expert goes on to reveal that Manchester City officials have not to have received any ‘official proposals’ aimed towards prising away the Algerian international from the blue side of Manchester just yet.

It has also been mentioned that with Gabriel Jesus’ chances of departing Manchester City claimed to be at ‘100%’, and Raheem Sterling’s feelings about continuing his career at the club described as ‘not sure’, depending on the proposals that come in for him, Riyad Mahrez’s future is reliant on various external factors.

Interestingly, another revelation that has emerged is that Manchester City’s number 26 is personally ‘calm’ about the uncertainty around his personal situation at the club at this present moment.

Further details suggest that at the time when Leonardo was PSG’s sporting director, the Ligue 1 giants ‘thought about’ the possibility of snapping up Mahrez. However, there have been ‘no updates’ between both clubs regarding this potential move.

Romano states that as things stand, Manchester City have planned to ‘speak’ to the former Leicester forward ‘in the coming weeks’ to assess his contractual situation.

As one awaits how Riyad Mahrez’s future unfolds, one thing that can be guaranteed is that the player will prove to be a major asset for whichever club he plays for.
