Manchester City travel to Anfield on Sunday afternoon, as they look to protect their unbeaten start to the new season against Jurgen Klopp's Liverpool side.

Pep Guardiola comes in to his next challenge of the 2022/23 season off the back of a successful night in the Champions League in midweek.

While Manchester City were held to a frustrating 0-0 draw against FC Copenhagen in Group G, results elsewhere meant that the reigning English top-flight champions qualified for the knock-out stages with two games to spare.

The first-half alone saw a trio of major VAR reviews, leading to a disallowed Manchester City opener, a penalty for the away side moments later, and a red card for Sergio Gomez for a professional foul on the 30th minute.

Thankfully for Pep Guardiola and City supporters - despite the intensity of the clash in Denmark - the squad returned to England without any fresh injury problems to note.

However, Manchester City's Catalan coach did hint at fitness concerns for a number of key players that featured for the first-team in Copenhagen.

Full updates on the likes of Erling Haaland and Bernardo Silva were provided by Pep Guardiola in Friday afternoon's press conference.

As for Liverpool, the Reds have been hit with a number of defensive problems in the past couple of days, with a fresh concern emerging on Saturday afternoon.

Here is your comprehensive round-up of team news and injury updates from both the Manchester City camp and Liverpool!

Liverpool Team News

Jurgen Klopp has a long list of injuries to contend with ahead of this weekend's clash with Manchester City, including a late problem that will be assessed prior to kick-off at Anfield.

All of the following players are likely to play no part in Sunday afternoon's clash due to longer-term injuries and fitness problems:

  • Luis Diaz
  • Joel Matip
  • Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain
  • Naby Keita
  • Curtis Jones
  • Trent Alexander-Arnold
  • Arthur Melo

As per David Ornstein of The Athletic, centre-back Ibrahima Konate is also facing a late fitness test ahead of the challenge of Manchester City.

As revealed on Saturday afternoon, the defender missed training on Friday due to a muscle problem and was due to undergo further assessment on the weekend.

The word from within the report is that while the issue is 'minor', Liverpool will not take any chances.

Manchester City Team News

Speaking on Friday afternoon, City boss Pep Guardiola confirmed that all of John Stones, Kalvin Phillips, and Kyle Walker would continue to be ruled out of action.

Offering more detailed updates on the trio, Guardiola said, "John (Stones) I think will be back, I don't know when, but maybe one week, ten days.

"Kalvin (Phillips) is getting better and is improving a lot. Kyle (Walker) is still out."

After the 0-0 draw with FC Copenhagen on Tuesday night, Guardiola also admitted that Erling Haaland, Bernardo Silva, and Phil Foden were suffering from a slight level of fatigue following an intense run of fixtures.

However, much to the relief of City supporters, Guardiola provided the following update on the trio.

"We cannot forget Erling, last season, could not play this amount of games in a row.

"He was tired. Bernardo as well - and the other ones.

"(But) they feel good. They are ready for Sunday."
