Manchester City's Erling Haaland labelled as "cheat code" by Premier League executive

Erling Haaland has got off to a flyer in his Manchester City career, and some officials in the Premier League see it as an unfair advantage.

Throughout the course of last season, the general consensus was that Manchester City would become unstoppable once they added a clinical striker to their ranks.

So far, this theory has aged well.

Erling Haaland’s addition has taken the current Manchester City side to another level.

The Norwegian’s potency in front of goal has ensured that the Premier League champions are the only remaining unbeaten side in the top five European leagues, barring Real Madrid.

Despite initial doubts over the 22-year old’s adaptability to Pep Guardiola’s system, he has put every such question to bed.

Scoring a staggering 20 goals in 12 games in all competitions, Erling Haaland has set the world alight.

In the league alone, Haaland has already matched Kevin De Bruyne’s impressive tally of 15 goals in the space of nine matches.

With the pace at which the youngster is putting the ball into the back of the net, it has become popular opinion that he looks dead set to break Mohamed Salah’s record 32 goals scored in a single league campaign.

There are many that even believe that if the former Borussia Dortmund talisman fulfils his contract at the Etihad Stadium until 2027, there exists a strong possibility that he will usurp Alan Shearer as the highest goalscorer in the division’s history.

As Haaland seems to be the biggest topic of conversation in English football, one Premier League executive is understood to have joked that Manchester City were “tapping in a cheat code” to add to their already incredible ensemble by signing him, according to a report by the I.

After an uncharacteristically poor showing from the blockbuster recruit in a 3-1 defeat against Liverpool in the Community Shield, many felt he would struggle to get to grips with the English top-flight.

Considering the trend of several forwards failing to replicate their Bundesliga exploits in the Premier League, there were no shortage of opinions about how Erling Haaland was about to do the same.

As the boyhood Manchester City supporter’s numbers, performances and impact suggests, the Premier League executive was right in suggesting that Pep Guardiola’s side had a special player on their hands.

Back in action in the Premier League this weekend, Manchester City travel to Anfield.

While Liverpool are certainly not at their usual lofty heights so far this season, the talent within Jurgen Klopp's side means they are highly regarded by Pep Guardiola and his City players.

The reigning Premier League champions will be hoping to get back to winning ways, after succumbing to a drab 0-0 draw in the Champions League against Copenhagen on Tuesday evening.
