Carl Froch Tried Telling Oleksandr Usyk About Fighting In Front Of 80,000 Fans At Wembley, He Was So Confused

Carl Froch Tried Telling Oleksandr Usyk About Fighting In Front Of 80,000 Fans At Wembley, He Was So Confused

The language barrier meant Oleksandr Usyk did not understand Carl Froch's 80,000 fans Wembley gloat.

Carl Froch tried to gloat about fighting George Groves in front of 80,000 people at Wembley to Oleksandr Usyk but the Ukrainian didn't have a clue what he was talking about.

Usyk defends his WBA, IBF and WBO world titles in the rematch against Anthony Joshua in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia on August 20.

The two fighters have been in London for a press conference and various media interviews to hype up the showdown.

One was with Pro Boxing Fans, where Froch and world heavyweight champion Usyk crossed paths.

The 'Cobra' conjured up his classic quip about the time he knocked out Groves but sadly the comment was lost on Usyk, who was very confused

"Did you know how many people I boxed in front of at Wembley Stadium?" Froch asked the champion, who replied saying, "Sorry?".

"I boxed at Wembley Stadium, did you know how many people were there? 80,000."

Usyk then proceeded to mention his ring walk for his win over Joshua in September at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, leading to Froch saying he was "only joking".

Though everyone loves his "I am very feel" catchphrase, Usyk's English isn't the best and so the language barrier did make it difficult.

Froch finished by saying "he can speak English!" to Usyk and then telling the Jonathan Nagioff, the reporter, to send him the clip.

The "80,000 at Wembley" schtick has become a staple for the former super middleweight champion and Froch himself has shown self-awareness by getting in on the act.

He even mentioned it to Floyd Mayweather on Sky Sports' broadcast ahead of Money's blockbuster fight with Manny Pacquiao in Las Vegas in 2015 and end up getting badly rinsed as a result.

Froch claims it was a pre-empted joke that was encouraged by Matchroom Boxing chief Eddie Hearn.

“I said to Eddie I’m gonna do this," he said on his Froch on Fighting podcast.

Eddie went, ‘No, no, no.’ And then he went, ‘Okay, sound, go on.’

“Mayweather comes up, I’ve got a mic, he’s got a mic. Frazer [Sky presenter] is in between us chatting away and then he passed to me.

“And I went, ‘How you doing Floyd? Just wanna say when I boxed George Groves in front of 80,000 fans at Wembley Stadium I chopped a few trees down myself.’

“Every now and again I surprise myself. I came out with that one, I’ve never chopped a tree down in my life."

Froch will never, ever let it die and it's definitely the thing he's best-known for.

Usyk vs Joshua II will take place at the Jeddah Super Dome, in front of 40,000 fans. It's not quite 80,000 at Wembley.
