Former UFC double champion Daniel Cormier has revealed what Logan Paul told him regarding the potential ‘safeguards’ in place to protect Jake Paul in his heavyweight bout against Anthony Joshua.
YouTuber-turned-boxer Paul and former two-time unified heavyweight world champion Joshua will go toe-to-toe in Miami, Florida, in a professional bout scheduled for eight rounds on December 19.
Most boxing experts expect ‘AJ’, who has previously shared a ring with elite fighters such as Oleksandr Usyk, Wladimir Klitschko, and Joseph Parker, to make light work of ‘The Problem Child’ by landing an early knockout, while others, including former heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder, believe the bout is ‘scripted’.
Despite this, Matchroom Boxing chief Eddie Hearn has maintained in a column for BBC Sport that the bout is not scripted as “it would be illegal” and “investigated by the FBI” if it were.

During the fight week, Joshua told Paul, “If I can kill you, I’ll kill”, which drew criticism from the boxing community, including fellow Brit Tyson Fury.

Meanwhile, Usyk also claimed that “if Anthony Joshua wants, he can kill this guy… I will pray for Jake Paul”.
There are some suspicions that the contract stipulates some kind of safeguarding for Paul, who is effectively still a rookie despite boasting a professional record of 12-1 from his 13 fights, including wins over Mike Tyson, Nate Diaz, and Tyron Woodley.
All of Paul’s wins were over MMA fighters unfamiliar with boxing or past-their-prime boxers, such as Tyson, who was 58 when the pair fought in November 2024. His sole loss came against Tommy Fury in February 2023.
So, is there anything in place to stop Paul from getting seriously hurt?
Well, according to his brother Logan, the answer to that question is no.
Former UFC light heavyweight and heavyweight champion Cormier explained what Logan told him in a video posted to X ahead of the fight.
“Listen, so I’ve asked Logan Paul what safeguards are there for Anthony Joshua versus Jake Paul, he said, ‘Daniel, they have none,’” explained ‘DC’.
“They are really going to fight. Anthony Joshua is going to fight to the best of his ability. Give Jake Paul his credit…”
Joshua has also maintained that he has trained for this fight as he would for any other and that the only safety precautions in place for Paul will be his groin guard and gum shield.
