Netflix subscribers will face a huge fine if they watch Canelo Alvarez fight Terence Crawford without the correct license.

The streaming giants recently announced that the fight, which is scheduled for Saturday 13 September will be shown globally on their service.

The boxing stars will travel to Las Vegas for the fight, where they will fight to become the undisputed super middleweight champion.

More than 300 million Netflix subscribers will be able to tune in and watch the Mexican 34-year-old Alvarez aim to defend his title.

But he will face a stiff challenge from Crawford, who will have to climb two weight classes for the fight.

The American 37-year-old took to X to issue a warning to his opponent.

He wrote: "The time has come.

"@Canelo, you’re in my way… and I’m not leaving Vegas without that win.

"See you September 13 at the Riyadh Season Card in Las Vegas. Streaming live on Netflix."

Despite the fight being three months away, the mind games have already begun between the boxers.

Boxing fans issued with £1,000 warning

However, UK boxing fans will have to be careful to avoid breaking one important law.

In this country it is mandatory to hold a valid TV license if you want to watch any live event at the time it is broadcast.

It is clarified on the TV licensing website, where it refers to anything that is 'live on streaming services'.

Anyone planning to watch the fight in September will need to have paid for a TV license, or they could face a fine of up to £1000.

If they choose to ignore TV licensing rules, individuals may also find themselves with a trip to court.

Daniel McAfee, Head of Legal Operations at Lawhive, said: "Under UK law, any live television broadcast requires a valid TV licence, regardless of the streaming platform.

“We have a duty to enforce the law when there is evidence that someone has avoided paying for a TV Licence."

How much does it cost to get a TV license?

A TV license in the UK currently costs £174.50, with the sum payable as either a single purchase or through instalments as a direct debit.

There are alternative licenses available for hospitality businesses.

And there are significant discounts for people living in care homes and sheltered accommodation.

If you are happy to watch the fight in black and white, then the license is significantly cheap, costing just £58.50.

Those who are registered blind can get a license for £87.25.
