Nigerian outlet Punch shared pictures of a shirtless Joshua in the car after the crash on Monday afternoon and said that circumstances are still being investigated but that two people died "on the spot".
An eye-witness shared details on what happened, telling Punch: "It was a two-vehicle convoy: a Lexus SUV and a Pajero SUV. Joshua was seated behind the driver, with another person beside him.
"There was also a passenger sitting beside the driver, making four occupants in the Lexus that crashed. His security detail was in the vehicle behind them before the crash.
“Other eyewitnesses and I began the rescue and flagged down oncoming vehicles to assist. A few minutes after the crash, officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps arrived.”
Joshua's camp are understood to be aware of the crash and are awaiting further details on exactly what happened. On social media, road safety officials in Nigeria issued a number of updates on the situation, stating Joshua was among five adult males in the crash.

They also said that it was suspected that the Lexus Jeep of which Joshua was a passenger in was travelling "beyond the legally prescribed speed limit" and lost control during "an overtaking manoeuvre".
Hours before the incident, Joshua posted on Instagram. He shared a video of him playing table tennis, with the caption, "@healthy_mindset dishing out table tennis smoke".
Long-time promoter Eddie Hearn gave a statement to the Daily Mail and said "thankfully" Joshua "appears OK from what I have seen in the images".
Just over a week before the crash, Joshua fought in the United States for the second time - knocking out YouTuber-turned-boxer Paul in the sixth round of their heavyweight contest and leaving the 28-year-old with a broken jaw which required surgery.
The two-time heavyweight world champion's bout with Paul was shown around the world on Netflix and watched by 33 million viewers.
