Derek Chisora has emerged as the frontrunner to be Tyson Fury’s next opponent.

According to The Telegraph, Fury and Chisora have agreed terms on a world title fight this year, to be held in Cardiff, Wales.

The Wythenshawe-born fighter said on social media on Saturday: “Hey guys, second session of the day. Absolutely smashing it.

“December 3, I’m coming for you. We’re about to announce an opponent this week sometime. Get up there my boy. Cardiff here we come, get up.”

This comes after talks for Fury’s much-anticipated fight with Anthony Joshua collapsed earlier on in the month. Now, it is understood that the 38-year-old Chisora will get his third chance at beating Fury, after losing the previous two bouts, in 2011 and 2014.

Fury won in 2011 via unanimous decision whilst Chisora was stopped in the 10th round three years later. Chisora is currently ranked 14th with the WBC and has a record of 33 wins and 12 defeats in 45 fights. Fury meanwhile is unbeaten in 33 fights and has been crowned heavyweight champion on two occasions.

Boxing fans have been teased with a potential fight between Fury and Joshua since way back in 2020 when there was an initial announcement that the two Brits were going to meet in the ring.

However, Fury was then ordered to fight Deontay Wilder for a third time due to a clause in their contract from previous fights.

During the last few weeks, both Fury and Joshua’s representatives have been trying to agree a deal to make the epic fight happen, however, nothing materialised.

Eddie Hearn stated that the contractual rights did not suit Joshua, therefore the right was off.

However, Frank Smith, the CEO of Matchroom Boxing ensured fans that the relationship between the two teams remains ‘very good’ and believes that the two fighters will eventually meet.

At the moment, it is unclear who Joshua will face next after his two defeats by Oleksandr Usyk.

Should he beat Chisora, Fury will surely take to the ring to face Usyk in a bid to become the undisputed king of the heavyweight division, most likely in February or March of 2023.
