Andrew Bogut has his say on 'brave Queen' trans runner for winning another women's race

Ex-Australian basketball player Andrew Bogut has continued to voice his concerns surrounding transgender eligibility in sport.

This time, the former NBA champion has taken aim at trans athlete Valentina Petrillo after she won her eighth women's title in Italy.

His comments on the matter sparked a wider debate with some people agreeing with him while others opposed his views.

Now Bogut has weighed in again, this time on Valentina Petrillo.

Petrillo had just won a gold medal in the 200m event at the Italian Indoors Championships, her eighth victory in a women's category since transitioning.

In response, Bogut posted a sarcastic tweet, saying: "Stunning and brave Queen!"

Others seemed to share the same sentiment too.

Aussie tennis star Thanasi Kokkinakis replied: "Seems fair..."

While ESPN broadcaster Sage Steele added: "Watched this video. Wish I hadn't. Insanity."

Bogut's post racked up over 3,000 likes and seemed to get plenty of people talking.

Cristina Sanulli, who finished in second place just behind Petrillo, shared her frustrations in the wake of the event.

Sanulli said: “We do not feel equal because [Petrillo’s] physical structure is male.

“So we are not running at par. Although the path Valentina has taken is respectable, athletically speaking it is not, and because of this we feel very discriminated.”

Earlier this month, Bogut made headlines when he reacted to news that a trans player would complete for the Kilsyth Cobras in the NBL1 South women’s league in the 2023 season.

At the time, Bogut tweeted: “Word is @NBL1 South Women will have a biological Male playing this upcoming season.

“Are you ok with sacrificing the sanctity of Female Sport in the name of ‘inclusion’? #GirlDads where are you?

“The hashtag is trendy until action is needed.”
