Arsenal Considering Tielemans Bid As Competition Looms

Arsenal Considering Tielemans Bid As Competition Looms

Arsenal are reportedly considering a bid for Youri Tielemans as competition for the midfielder seems to be looming.

According to Ben Jacobs of CBS Sports, Arsenal are considering a bid for Leicester City midfielder Youri Tielemans.

Jacobs claims Arsenal have in fact agreed terms with the midfielder but are still yet to place an official bid.

The move has not been ruled out, but the Gunners are deciding whether to bid.

Furthermore, Jacobs claims if Arsenal do agree a fee with Leicester, the Belgian will sign.

Manchester United also have genuine interest in Tielemans, which could force Arsenal's hand.

Newcastle United are also considering the race too, with technical director Dan Ashworth making enquiries.

Arsenal's interest goes a long way back, the North London club were interested before Tielemans went to Leicester.

It has looked for a long time like Arsenal would make a move for the midfielder this Summer.

Tielemans' agents even reportedly visited London Colney in January for talks over a Summer move.

When the window opened, the signing almost looked a formality.

However, interest in players such as Raphinha and Lisandro Martinez has seen Tielemans fall to the bottom of the priority list.

Whether this is due to Arsenal's interest fading, or the relatively low difficulty of the deal meaning it could be put on the back-burner, is unclear.

Arsenal's interest is real, but they must act quick if they want their man.

Tielemans is a centre-midfielder known for his technical ability.

He is very press-resistant and is a top class passer of the ball.

The 25-year-old arrived in Leicester in 2019 and has enjoyed a very good three years at the KP Stadium.

Tielemans scored the winning goal in Leicester's FA Cup final win in 2021.

His 21/22 wasn't the best with the midfielder struggling at times with the defensive responsibilities.

In an Arsenal system, it would be expected that the Belgian would play on the left of Thomas Partey, a position occupied by Granit Xhaka for some of last season.

Tielemans is more mobile and would be a better fit for that position.

Arsenal are far from finished in this Summer window, and are expected to announce Gabriel Jesus imminently.
