Chelsea make £70 million bid for Wesley Fofana despite Brendan Rodgers' 'not for sale' stance

Chelsea make £70 million bid for Wesley Fofana despite Brendan Rodgers' 'not for sale' stance

Chelsea have launched a second bid for Leicester City defender Wesley Fofana and are determined to land him this summer.

Chelsea have launched a second bid for Leicester City defender Wesley Fofana and are determined to land him this summer, according to reports.

The 21-year-old is the subject of strong interest from Chelsea this summer and the Blues had a £60 million rejected earlier this week, according to reports in France.

Fofana is contracted until 2027 after signing a new long-term deal back in March, and Leicester City want to keep hold of him.

Brendan Rodgers insists he is not for sale, along with James Maddison, as Leicester eye cash to help fund new additions.

He said on Friday: "These players are not for sale. These are very important players to us.

“We’re in a situation where we need to move some players out but that doesn't mean getting rid of anyone and everyone and especially not our best assets."

He reiterated his stance after explaining that Fofana was happy at the King Power, when he said: “He’s not for sale. There is going to be interest in him, that’s the point. I had a long chat with him the other day. When you are as talented as he is there’s going to be lots of speculation, but he’s not for sale.

"I’ve got no doubts that in future he’ll play on the highest stage but he feels good here and he’s very comfortable with his teammates.

"When we signed him from Saint-Etienne (in 2020) he had played only 26 games at senior level. Everyone had a look at him back then but he came here and flourished.

"He was happy to sign a new five-year deal in March.

"He has perhaps got an opportunity to get himself into France’s World Cup squad, which is about playing regularly, so I’m pretty calm on it. He’s very happy here."

But Chelsea’s pressure hasn’t let up and after the signing of Marc Cucurella, they are eyeing a big-money move for the France international.

As reported by Fabrizio Romano, Chelsea are ‘obsessed’ with him and want to make a summer swoop.

Ben Jacobs reports that they have now made a £70 million bid which if it is rejected, Chelsea will be back with another bid.

Todd Boehly and co want to ensure he is a Blues player by the end of the transfer, making him their number one target between now and 1 September.

As reports in Germany state, Tuchel is only wanting world-class players and Chelsea will be eager to convince Leicester to part ways with Fofana, however they will need to offer serious money if they are to land their current number one target.

The new owners have shown their ambition already for the current team and the future of the team/club, something they are currently relishing.
