Petr Cech To Leave Chelsea As Exodus Continues Following Todd Boehly Meeting

Petr Cech To Leave Chelsea As Exodus Continues Following Todd Boehly Meeting

Another day, another departure at Stamford Bridge.

Petr Cech will leave his as Technical and Performance Advisor at Chelsea on 30 June, becoming the latest member to leave following the club's takeover.

The 40-year-old becomes the latest departure at stamford Bridge, following the likes of Bruce Buck and Marina Granovskaia out of the door.

Chairman Todd Boehly is ringing the changes as the new regime put their stamp on the club following the £4.25 billion takeover last month.

Cech's exit will be effective from 30 June, a decision he felt was the right one after three years at Chelsea in his role.

He said in a statement: "It has been a huge privilege to perform this role at Chelsea for the past three years.

"With the Club under new ownership, I feel now is the right time for me to step aside.

"I am pleased that the Club is now in an excellent position with the new owners, and I am confident of its future success both on and off the pitch."

As reported by The Telegraph, Boehly wanted to keep hold of Cech until the end of the transfer window to aid the transition but the Czech believed it was the time to leave immediately and informed the American of his decision in a meeting between the pair.

Boehly reacted to Cech leaving, adding: "Petr is an important member of the Chelsea family.

"We understand his decision to step away and thank him for his contributions as an advisor and his commitment to the club and to our community. We wish him the best."

Head coach Thomas Tuchel will no doubt be disappointed after losing Granovskaia and now Cech.

Earlier in the year, he hoped the pair would remain in west London but knew it was a decision that wasn't down to him.

"I can only tell you that until now it was an excellent relationship that worked so, so well for me and hopefully also for the two others - to take these decisions and to have the updates in a small circle of communications and responsibility.

"Hopefully it will stay like this but I have no influence over it," the Chelsea head coach said back in March.

Chelsea have now lost the spine of their recruitment team. Boehly is now the club's interim sporting director and appears to have taken the lead on transfers.

As for Cech's departure, it's a big blow to Boehly who wanted him to remain - even in the short-term.

The structure is changing at Chelsea. Now it's time for replacements.
