Marc Cucurella to Chelsea: Medical booked, contract length and transfer fee revealed

Marc Cucurella to Chelsea: Medical booked, contract length and transfer fee revealed

Marc Cucurella is closing in on a transfer to Chelsea as he undergoes his medical as Levi Colwill closes in on a move to Brighton.

Marc Cucurella is closing in on a transfer to Chelsea this summer as he undergoes his medical, while Levi Colwill closes in on a move the other way, according to reports.

Despite Brighton’s public stance of no deal being agreed for Cucurella on Wednesday evening after reports emerged that a £52.5 million fee had been agreed between the clubs, a transfer is now on the verge of completion.

Cucurella, 24, has received interest from Chelsea and Manchester City but the Blues are the only club to meet the asking price.

His deal that will take him to Stamford Bridge will see Levi Colwill head in the other direction to the south coast.

Originally, it was thought it would be on a permanent basis but it is now claimed that it could now be on loan.

Now a transfer is on the verge of happening after Fabrizio Romano reported that Cucurella is now in London undergoing medical tests ahead of a big-money move to the capital.

Once the medical has been completed, they will wait to sign the relevant documents between the clubs before a move is completed and confirmed.

Colwill moving in the other direction is what appeared to hold up the deal but with reports suggesting a breakthrough in the 19-year-old’s side of the deal, Chelsea look to be close to signing their second defender of the summer.

Whether Cucurella will be available to face Everton on Saturday in their Premier League opener is unlikely, but at this stage unclear.

Cucurella, as reported by Nathan Gissing, will sign a long-term contract for six years until 2028.

He will follow Raheem Sterling, Kalidou Koulibaly, Gabriel Slonina and Carney Chukwuemeka at the club once his arrival is confirmed.

Chelsea have also just confirmed the contract extension of Cesar Azpilicueta until 2024 after he rejected a move to Barcelona.

Todd Boehly, co-owner and Chairman, said: "Cesar is a world-class leader on and off the pitch. He’s a Chelsea legend and exemplifies so many of the qualities and values as a player and a person we aspire to.

"We couldn’t be more excited for Cesar to be at Chelsea under our ownership as we continue to work to build a champion squad."

Wesley Fofana, Frenkie de Jong and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang have all been linked with a move to Stamford Bridge as a possible spend of £300 million could be reached by the time the window closes on 1 September.

Tuchel will be pleased to have more additions coming into the club after a frustrating first month or so.

The current number is at four, soon to be five, and more are expected to follow.
