Todd Boehly's message to Callum Hudson-Odoi revealed after Chelsea sanction Bayer Leverkusen loan move

Todd Boehly's message to Callum Hudson-Odoi revealed after Chelsea sanction Bayer Leverkusen loan move

Hudson-Odoi has joined Bayer Leverkusen on loan for the season.

Chelsea youngster Callum Hudson-Odoi has revealed Todd Boehly’s message to him amid his loan move to Bayer Leverkusen.

The 21-year-old has joined the Bundesliga side for the season, giving him first team opportunities away from the Blues.

He was out of action for much of last season through injury, but did well in the first half of the campaign when given opportunities.

Hudson-Odoi is now featuring for Leverkusen, joining on a season-long deal.

However, there has been no clause included that would allow the German side to buy him on a permanent deal at the end of the season.

Such a decision has therefore signalled Chelsea’s future intentions for the player, who broke into the first team squad in the 2018/19 season.

In an interview via the Daily Mail, he spoke on the decision not to include a buy option in the deal, and what co-owner Boehly said to him before he made the switch.

“It's definitely different. When a club is trying to get a player (on loan), they always want that option to buy at the end of the season.

“Todd was saying: 'Listen, we want you back here.'

“You're still on the radar of being wanted by the club. The way he's trying to set it up, there are a lot of young players he's trying to buy for the next few years.

“It shows he wants to integrate the players into the team and help them develop.”

Hudson-Odoi has impressed so far at his new side, featuring in both of their Champions League games and making three appearances in the Bundesliga, with one assist to his name so far.

His parent club have struggled in recent weeks, and there is an option in the player’s deal for him to be recalled in January.

Chelsea have won just three of their opening eight games of the season, with all of them coming in the Premier League.

They currently sit bottom of Group E in the Champions League, having lost to Dinamo Zagreb and drawn to FC Salzburg.

The latter match was the first for Graham Potter as the new head coach at the Blues, having joined the club from Brighton and Hove Albion last week.

He will now have time to adapt to his new surroundings before they next play, with the international break set to start in the coming days.

The Blues will return to league action after the break with a trip to Crystal Palace.
